CG Residence

Completed 2024

The objective for the Carlton North Victorian heritage house was to upgrade it with an extension and modern interiors that respected its historical character while providing contemporary living spaces. We introduced a Victorian arch, a design element that nods to the home’s heritage, and used a palette of soft, muted colors throughout to create a serene and cohesive atmosphere, ultimately achieving a Japandi-themed looking house for the entire dwelling, blending Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian functionality.

A significant part of the project involved upgrading the existing dwelling with new, modern interiors by carefully selecting light-reflective materials for walls, flooring, and cabinetry, which enhanced the natural light all around the house, particularly important as it is enclosed by other dwellings on both sides.

The rear extension focused on intelligent space planning to enlarge the existing living room, making it a more generous and central gathering space, and to accommodate a new, well-appointed kitchen, a practical laundry room, and a modern bathroom.

The aim of the extension was to create a beautiful and functional modern addition that seamlessly complemented the original Victorian heritage facade at the front of the house, respecting its architectural integrity.
